Rédemption, composed by César Franck between 1871 and 1874, is a 50–60-minute “poème-symphonie” for soprano, mixed chorus, orchestra, and narrator, setting Édouard Blau’s quasi-religious poem about human suffering and divine redemption, premiered in 1873 in Paris and revised in 1874.
