Player Biographies: Andre Vanderhal, Violin

Andre Vanderhal started on violin at age 10, and at age 14 joined the Dutch National Youth Orchestra, of which he later became concertmaster. He participated in many local and national student orchestras, was chosen for International Youth Orchestras (Jeunesse Musicales International) in Amsterdam, Lausanne and Lisbon, and was Primasz of the Leiden Student Gypsy Band, Hoszpita. He performed as soloist (Saint Saens’ 3rd violin concerto) with the Leiden Student Music Society “Sempre Crescendo”. While pursuing a successful medical career in Neonatology (newborn intensive care pediatrics), that brought him from the Netherlands via Israel to the USA, he continued to play chamber music, reentering orchestra playing in 2005, initially as first violinist and later also on viola. He presently plays with the Palisades Symphony and the Santa Monica Symphony. Besides music, he enjoys spending time with his wife Nancy and their extended family of 4 children and 8 grandchildren, enjoying hiking, biking, books, chess, photography, and travelling.
