March and Procession of Bacchus, from the ballet "Sylvia"

Leo Delibes's ballet Sylvia premiered at the Paris Opéra in 1876.  The work includes the march we will play, which is a delightful, lively pops number, always a favorite with audiences.

Newspaper Suite for Orchestra and Trombone

David Stout's Newpaper Suite is essentially an eight-movement concerto for trombone and narrator.  The theme is your Sunday newpaper, with movements corresponding to each section (front page, comics, obits, sports, etc.).  In this light-hearted and enjoyable work, you will hear quotations from "Camptown Races", "Taps", the "Mexican Hat Dance", and a certain number of aleatoric (randomly chosen) passages.

Brahms, Symphony No.3 in F major, op. 90

The Third Symphony was composed in 1882-1883, when Brahms was at the height of his powers, and premiered by the Vienna Philharmonic under Hans Richter.  Two powerful and impassioned outer movements (one commentator calls them "as wild as a windstorm in a forest") flank a more meditative Andante and an intermezzo.  The ending, in which fluttering passages in the strings suddenly transmogrify to echo the opening of the whole symphony-- is completely extraordinary.
